VMRD was founded in 1981 by Dr. Scott Adams, DVM, PhD, and currently employs over 50 researchers, lab technicians and support personnel. From its site in Pullman, Washington VMRD develops and manufactures veterinary diagnostic test kits and related reagents for distribution in more than 77 countries. As a rapidly growing company, VMRD strives to preserve its family focused culture and core values of integrity and quality.

Equine Infectious Anemia Virus Antibody Test Kit, ELISA

This Equine Infectious Anemia Virus Antibody Test Kit, ELISA is an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). It is unusual in that it is neither an indirect nor a competitive ELISA. Rather, we refer to it as a modified sandwich ELISA. This format has the species agnosticism of a cELISA, and possibly improves on the inherent specificity of a cELISA, without being hampered by the single-epitope limitations of a cELISA. Equine serum is incubated in the EIAV p26 Antigen-Coated Plates and removed by dumping. Bound antibody is detected by adding Antigen-Peroxidase Conjugate (purified recombinant EIAV p26 antigen conjugated to HRP; the same antigen used to coat wells) followed by washing and Substrate Solution addition. After incubation, Stop Solution is added, changing the color of the Positive Control and any positive serum samples from blue to yellow. The results can be read using a microplate reader or visually by comparison with the Positive Control. This test for antibodies to EIAV is rapid (~35 min), yet provides high specificity and sensitivity.

EIA Reference Serum

VMRD offers EIA positive reference sera. These equine origin sera contain a level of antibody that gives a strong, medium or weak positive reaction in VMRD’s EIA ELISA. Each vial of serum comes complete with a certificate of analysis which includes a photograph of the reaction in AGID as well as the optical densities of the ELISA reaction as run in the VMRD laboratory. These reference sera are intended as reference samples for quality assurance of EIA ELISA tests.

Equine Infectious Anemia Virus Antibody Test Kit, AGID

This Equine Infectious Anemia Virus (EIAV) Antibody Test Kit is an agar-gel immunodiffusion (AGID) assay that detects precipitating antibodies in equine sera using a purified recombinant EIA virus core protein of 26,000 Dalton molecular weight (p26). Sample sera, if positive, will form lines that fuse with reference positive control lines or that deviate the reference positive control lines inward near the sample well without formation of a visible line. Negative sera will neither form a line that fuses with the reference positive control line nor cause deviation of the reference positive control lines.
